About this wallpaper
October 31st is a threshold night. In many parts of the world, the last day of October opens a season of remembering, when homes are dressed in marigolds and doorways strung with perforated tissue paper. Today's wallpaper takes that hand-cut tradition and bathes it in daylight, choosing softness over spookiness and tenderness over theatrics.
Each pastel flag is a small sermon on patience: folded, chiselled and unfolded to reveal crescent moons, sleeping cats, round pumpkins and marigold rosettes. Rendered in mid-century gouache with the slight drift of screenprint registration, the banners feel both handmade and printed, like a festival poster found in a sunlit stationery shop.
And then there are the monarchs. Every autumn they arrive by the millions at their winter forests, right around this time of year, and they have long been greeted as returning visitors. Here a few escape their paper and float upward toward the open wall, carrying the thought that light passes through every hole we cut, and that what we honor can still fly.
