This Week's Wallpapers: October 19–25, 2026

A sleeping cat, two birthday cakes, a pixel rose window and a week of amber light

This was a week of warm light. Amber, marigold and terracotta run through almost every piece, from a cat asleep in a patch of October sun to a sunset cloud held in gold wire. Birthdays came up twice in a row, once as a crayon-drawn patisserie scene and once as a dark, close-up still life. One piece stepped away from the warmth entirely, into the cool blues of a cyanotype.

The week opens with a familiar autumn scene: a cat curled up in the single square of low sun that falls through a window onto the floorboards. The piece is part of the Fables of the Hearth collection and is drawn in smooth, flowing gradients, with the everyday clutter of a room left out. Its colours move from soft cream through honey and amber to terracotta, settling into a deep brown at the edges.

A gentle, light-leaning lock screen that sits well with a warm home screen.

Tuesday's piece is the cool exception. It borrows the curling ironwork of turn-of-the-century design and the soft, misty mood of Japanese Shin-Hanga prints, then renders it all in the mineral blues of a cyanotype. Ginkgo leaves and stylised dragonflies wind around crisp Art Deco chevron medallions, as if their shadows had been printed straight onto sun-sensitive paper. Soft gradations of colour suggest a glass conservatory in morning mist.

Pale at the top and deep navy below, it works on a lock screen in light or dark mode.

A single sunset cloud is drawn here in the manner of cloisonné, with thin gilded wires outlining each swirl and pools of glossy enamel filling the spaces between. The colours follow the evening sky from pale gold and orange into dusky mauve and a dark plum. Over the polish sits a soft, grainy texture, like an old 35mm print kept between the pages of a sketchbook.

Rich and mid-toned, it makes a warm lock screen and suits a dark home screen.

The second Fables of the Hearth piece this week is set in a sunlit corner of an old European patisserie, in the moment just before the birthday candles are blown out. Paper party crowns and scalloped ribbons wait beside a frosted cake with autumn berries. It is drawn with the waxy texture of vintage crayons and soft pastels, in the spirit of mid-century editorial illustration, in creamy ivory, apricot, coral and dusty pink.

A bright, cheerful choice for a light lock screen.

Friday returns to the birthday candle, this time much closer and much darker. From the Macro Luxuries collection, it looks at the remains of a celebration, molten wax, caramelised sugar and glowing reflections, through a close-up lens and the dramatic light-and-shadow of seventeenth-century still life painting. There are no party horns or crowded tables, only glossy surfaces where amber and gold glow out of near-black shadow.

Very dark overall, it is well suited to a dark-mode lock screen.

Saturday's piece imagines a stained glass rose window built on a retro pixel grid. Each pixel is treated as its own small pane of hand-poured glass, slightly imperfect and set in heavy lead lines. At the centre, an eclipsed binary star spills amber and ruby light through a lattice of teal and deep blue. Much of the frame is left almost black, so the bright centre carries the image.

Made with dark mode in mind, it leaves open space for clock and widgets on the lock screen.

The week closes with a cassette tape, rendered as a linocut. As the brown tape unspools across the frame, it opens out into bold chevrons and wide stripes in the graphic style of the 1970s. The colours are marigold, terracotta and rust on a background the colour of toasted biscuit paper. The story behind it remembers when playing music meant spools, a snapping deck door and a little patience.

Warm and light-backed, it works on either the lock screen or the home screen.
